Into The Fog with Peter Laws
66. Lower Quinton: The Village That Hid a Witch Murder?
Video Version HERE
In 1945, an elderly farm worker was found savagely killed on the slopes of Meon Hill. His body was pinned to the ground with his own pitchfork. Rumours spread that this was no ordinary murder, but a ritual killing rooted in old English witchcraft. In this episode, I investigate the chilling case now known as the Pitchfork Witch Murder: the killing of Charles Walton in the Warwickshire village of Lower Quinton. I’ll explore the original police files, local folklore about the "Black Dog" of Meon Hill, and the theories that have surrounded this case for decades – from witchcraft, ancient stone circles to occult sacrifice. We’ll also look at the role of the famous detective “Fabian of the Yard”, and ask why this brutal crime remains officially unsolved.
